Handwritten, Made to Order

Shanshui Qing (山水清) is a horizontal calligraphy display made with three individually finished cards. Each character is handwritten by artist Niohe after an order is placed, making every piece a hand-written work rather than a printed reproduction.

The front of each card features one Chinese character, framed by decorative Song Brocade fabric. On the reverse, you will find the corresponding English word and the artist’s signature.

Song Brocade Details

Each card is approximately 8.5 × 5.8 cm and 3 mm thick. The brocade fabric adds color, pattern, and texture to the handwritten characters, while the natural wood-tone frame brings the three pieces together in a simple horizontal composition.

The brocade patterns and colors vary according to the available materials. I select and arrange the three cards as a coordinated set, so each display has its own combination of textile details.

A Traditional Reading Direction

The three characters are arranged to be read from right to left, following the traditional reading direction of Chinese calligraphy.

Read from the rightmost card to the left: 山、水、清.

A Small Work for Everyday Spaces

Designed for a desk, bookshelf, side table, or quiet corner at home, this compact display brings handwritten Chinese art into everyday surroundings without taking up much space.

It also makes a thoughtful gift for someone who appreciates Chinese calligraphy, Eastern art, and carefully made objects. Each piece comes with a gift box, ready to be presented on a special occasion or kept as a personal keepsake.
